Osteichthys
Chordates - animals that have a notochord, hollow dorsal nerve cord, pharyngeal slits, and an endostyle. Members of this family are mainly bilaterally symmetric and show segmentation in the vertebrate chordates.
Osteichthys - also called bony fish, are a taxonomic group of fish that have bone, as opposed to cartilaginous, skeletons. Wolverine, Gulo Gulo - The wolverine is currently being watched due to their numbers slowly decreasing. Also, these animals are found attacking other animals much larger than them and being able to kill them. |
Amphibia
Chordata- the mammalian brain regulates body temperature and the circulatory system, including the four-chambered heart. Phylum also includes the subphylum Vertebrata, including mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and also birds.
Testudines- special bony or cartilaginous shell developed from their ribs and acting as a shield. Sierra Nevada Yellow Legged-Frog, Rana sierrae - The Sierra Nevada Yellow Legged-Frog is found in the Sierra Mountains of Nevada, but is also found Yosemite. |
Reptilia
Chordata- the mammalian brain regulates body temperature and the circulatory system, including the four-chambered heart. Phylum also includes the subphylum Vertebrata, including mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and also birds.
Testudines- special cartilaginous shell that develops from their ribs and acts as a shield. Western Pond Turtle, Actinemys marmorata - The Western Pond Turtle is the only turtle that can be found at Yosemite National Park. |
Aves
Chordata- the mammalian brain regulates body temperature and the circulatory system, including the four-chambered heart. Phylum also includes the subphylum Vertebrata, including mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and also birds.
Aves - Aves are feathered, winged, two legged, warm blooded, egg laying vertebrates, they possess the unique ability to fly and use that to their advantage. The American Dipper, Cinclus Mexicanus - Birds are essential to the ecology of the valley. Carrying pollens and seeds of plants and disseminating them. The American Dipper is a very populated bird species, thriving in the West side of the United States. |
Carnivores
Chordata- the mammalian brain regulates body temperature and the circulatory system, including the four-chambered heart. Phylum also includes the subphylum Vertebrata, including mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and also birds.
Carnivora- diverse order that includes over 280 species of placental mammals. Members of this order are usually known as carnivorans Sierra Nevada Red Fox, Vulpes vulpes necator - The Sierra Nevada Red Fox has only had a couple of recorded sightings, the red fox is often mistaken for the grey fox due to similar appearances. |
Herbivores
Chordata- the mammalian brain regulates body temperature and the circulatory system, including the four-chambered heart. Phylum also includes the subphylum Vertebrata, including mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and also birds.
Herbivore - is an animal anatomically and physiologically adapted to eating plant material, for example foliage, for the main component of its diet. Mule Deer, Odocoileus hemionus - The Mule Deer is a common deer that can be often found, although they are common in Yosemite National Park they are part of a few animals that are herbivores that live in the park. |
Omnivores
Chordates- animals that have a notochord, hollow dorsal nerve cord, pharyngeal slits, and an endostyle. Members of this family are mainly bilaterally symmetric and show segmentation in the vertebrate chordates.
Omnivora - is an animal whose species normally derives its energy and nutrients from a diet consisting of a variety of food sources that may include plants, animals, algae, fungi, and bacteria. American Black Bear, Ursus americanus - At Yosemite National Park there are approximately 300 to 500 American Black Bears. American Black Bears at Yosemite National Park are rarely seen and if they are can cause excitement, fear, and awe, due to their small numbers. |
Rodents
Chordata- the mammalian brain regulates body temperature and the circulatory system, including the four-chambered heart. Phylum also includes the subphylum Vertebrata, including mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and also birds.
Rodentia- most diverse mammal order, have short limbs and long tails. Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel, Callospermophilus lateralis - These rodent are unique to our park because they are the only rodents in our park that burrow in the ground for shelter. |
